Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee

The single knocked Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" out of the top spot less than one month after claiming the title, and longtime record holder "Gangnam Style" by Korean singer Psy has fallen to third place. It only took 7 months to reach the historic number, that means it has been watched almost 15 million times every day, or 170 times per second.

The video for the hit summer anthem "Despacito" has become the most viewed on YouTube of all time.

"Despacito" also became the most streamed track of all time this very month.

Celebrating the milestone Luis Fonsi thanked his supporters, fans, his crew, and Daddy Yankee in a message recorded for YouTube's official Twitter handle. "Thank you YouTube", said Daddy Yankee.

"See You Again" was featured in the 2015 action movie "Furious 7" and intersperses scenes from the film with Khalifa rapping and Puth singing as they overlook a sandy coast.

A version of the video featuring the goal star has so far received more than 464 million YouTube views.

While some Americans may be more familiar with the Justin Bieber remix of the track, the original still reigns supreme in streaming and on YouTube. The rules of music have changed.

After spending 28 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the song is No. 1.
