Trump Jr.'s Russian Federation meeting explanation came from his dad

Donald Trump Jr. issued a statement about meeting with a Russian lawyer that later proved misleading

"If it's what you say I love it", Trump Jr.

As the Post noted, it's unclear how much the President knew at the time of the statement's release about the meeting Trump Jr. attended in order to receive dirt on Hillary Clinton as part of a Kremlin-directed effort to help his father's campaign.

Citing people familiar with the discussions, the Post said the president's legal team planned to present the meeting as a potential setup by Democrats seeking to entrap Trump Jr and thus Trump himself, who at the time was the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

The president's advisers wanted to release a statement that was truthful so there was no chance it was repudiated later.

While Trump and his lawyers refused to provide the Post with a comment, Trump Jr.'s lawyer, Alan Futerfas, told the Post that he and his client "were fully prepared and absolutely prepared to make a fulsome statement" about the meeting.

President Donald Trump "certainly didn't dictate" a statement for his eldest son to release about a campaign meeting with a Russian lawyer previous year, but "he weighed in and offered suggestions, like any father would do", the White House said Tuesday.

The statement was issued to the New York Times, as it was preparing its story on the meeting.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday the president "weighed in as any father would based on the limited information that he had".

Blair Must Face Justice to Prevent Another Iraq
Former British prime minister Tony Blair argued the case for the 2003 invasion of Iraq in support of then U.S. president George W. The ruling follows the publication a year ago of the UK's official Iraq War, led by Sir John Chilcot.

"This was. unnecessary", one adviser told the paper.

Anthony Scaramucci's profanity-laden tirade last week was the reason.

In New York, Police Commissioner James O'Neill said in a statement that to "suggest that police officers apply any standard in the use of force other than what is reasonable and necessary is irresponsible, unprofessional and sends the wrong message to law enforcement as well as the public".

It may be, as the President's allies told the Post, that Trump simply doesn't grasp the legal implications of his actions and sees the Russian Federation probe as a family public relations problem that he alone can set right. Hicks also spoke by phone with Trump Jr.

White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci was sacked on Monday after fewer than 10 days in the post.

Why is Trump possibly in legal trouble?

It has been entertaining to watch the ongoing soap opera of this White House - the infighting, the backstabbing, the firings, the general air of chaos - but it's important to remember that the biggest problem it has is the man who sits in the Oval Office.

Here's Jeff Flake in POLITICO, summing up his argument against Trump.
