Mets agree to send reliever Reed to Red Sox for 3 prospects

In exchange for their new setup man, the Red Sox traded three minor league prospects; Gerson Bautista, Jamie Callahan, and Stephen Nogosek. All three rank in the Rex Sox's top 30 prospects, according to MLB.com.

The 28-year-old became the Mets closer after Jeurys Familia went on the 60-day disabled list in May with a arterial blood clot in his right shoulder. Late on Sunday, many sources felt that they were close to a deal for Mets reliever Addison Reed. Before his trade from Arizona, the righthander had even spent a portion of the season in the minors.

He's appeared 27 times for High-A Salem this summer, posting a 5.16 ERA with four saves in 45.1 innings. He has 19 saves in 23 chances this season with 63 K's in 53 innings pitched.

Boston's dealings ended with the Reed acquisition, though. Reed was also 19 for 21 in save opportunities for NY. He has struggled away from Citi Field this season (4.43 road ERA) and has a pedestrian 48 strikeouts in 49 innings.

Eurozone GDP growth ticks up to 0.6% in Q2; euro steady
The updated manufacturing PMI from Markit showed a modest positive surprise when released this morning, rising to 55.1 from 54.2. Among the clearest signs of a rebound has been the euro's pick-up to around $1.17, from $1.05 at the start of the year.

Reed became a Met at the deadline in 2015, and really hit his stride once he arrived in NY.

This could be an absolute boon for Boston, as Reed has proven himself to be among the most-dominant relievers in the game. We liked them. And I think they liked (Reed), too. Contending teams are always in search of bullpen help, and Reed is proven as both a set-up man and as a closer.

It remains to be seen if any of these three relievers or Smith make an impact on the major league level. Callahan was promoted to triple-A Pawtucket in mid-May. He was taken in the second round in 2012 and considered a project by some scouts, though he has thrived upon his conversion to relief work. The Rockies were sent three players as well, headlined by their 21st ranked prospect, infielder Jose Gomez. He's reliant on a mix of a fastball and slider, with the four-seamer living at around 93 miles per hour.

Trading for prospects was not a fate the Mets had anticipated after beginning the season with high expectations.
