In terms of weekly alcohol amount, the lowest risk of developing diabetes being found in individuals consuming moderate amounts of alcohol.

Men who drink 14 alcoholic beverages a week and women who drink nine have the lowest risk of developing diabetes compared to non-drinkers, according to a study published Thursday in Diabetologia, the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.

Wine was found to be particularly good at cutting the diabetes risk, because of the chemical compound polyphenols, which is particularity high in red wine.

Experts from the University of Southern Denmark have established an association between moderate drinking and lowered risk of diabetes. Among men reporting consuming alcohol less than 1 day per week or between 1 and 2 days per week, beer represented about half the amount of alcohol consumed; for men reporting drinking alcohol 3 to 4 days per week or more, wine represented half of the total alcohol intake.

This isn't the first study to find a link between drinking moderately-having up to 7 drinks a week for women and up to 14 drinks a week for men-and a reduced diabetes risk, compared to not drinking at all.

A Danish study found beer may protect against diabetes too, although women may want to steer clear of the gin bottle, with "mother's ruin" among the spirits which nearly double the risk. In that time, 859 men and 887 women were diagnosed with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

The authors conclude: "Our findings suggest that alcohol drinking frequency is associated with the risk of diabetes and that consumption of alcohol over 3 to 4 weekdays is associated with the lowest risks of diabetes, even after taking average weekly alcohol consumption into account".

William Browder: Fusion GPS Was Acting On Behalf Of Russia
The 2016 meeting happened after the president's eldest son was offered potentially damaging information about Hillary Clinton . Chairman Grassley accused Fusion GPS of being an unregistered foreign agent for Russian Federation .

"In principle we can only say something about the five-year risk from this study", said Tolstrup in an email. Meanwhile, there was no relationship between binge drinking and diabetes risk. Using information from the Danish National Diabetes Register, the researchers determined if the people in the study developed diabetes.

It seems barely a day goes by without conflicting reports telling us that drinking is bad for us - or no, actually some drinking is OK. Some of the most recent studies have linked moderate drinking with cognitive decline, brain damage and risk of cardiovascular ailments.

"We can see it's a better effect to drink the alcohol in four portions rather than all at once".

"Alcohol has been suggested to increase insulin sensitivity and lower fasting insulin resistance, which might play an important role in the progression of diabetes", Tolstrup said. However, there was no effect on women's risk.

Moreover, they stressed that regularly drinking alcohol can still contribute to other serious health complications such as liver disease and some types of cancer.

Next to wine, beer also had a positive effect on lowering diabetes risk.
