Baby Charlie protesters to rally as hospital reports threats

Charlie Gard in Great Ormond Street Hospital

Police have been contacted after staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital received death threats in connection with the Charlie Gard case.

Mary MacLeaod, chair of Great Ormond Street Hospital, said thousands of abusive messages had been sent to doctors and nurses in recent weeks relating to the case.

'Many of the messages are menacing, including death threats'.

Charlie, who is 11 months old, suffers from a rare genetic condition which causes progressive muscle weakness.

Charlie's parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, are battling with the hospital for the right to take their desperately sick little boy to the USA for pioneering treatment, which the hospital opposes because they believe it will only prolong his suffering.

Specialists at Great Ormond Street say the therapy is experimental and will not help.

Great Ormond Street has been the focus of public hostility for their refusal to support the family in their efforts to carry out the treatment.

Next week, Charlie's parents will present evidence at London's High Court, provided it is new and relevant to the case, according to the AP.

"Families have been harassed and discomforted while visiting their children, and we have received complaints of unacceptable behaviour even within the hospital itself".

That, my friends, is something worth fighting for, especially when women are so frequently underestimated on Game of Thrones . Cunningham suggested Shireen, while Emmanuel appealed to the moderator by saying she's still heartbroken about Hodor.

Staff have received abuse in the street as well as via online messages.

The pre-hearing Friday was the latest step in his parents' long legal battle to give Charlie, who suffers from mitochondrial depletion syndrome and can not breathe unaided, an experimental treatment.

President Trump and the Vatican have spoken out in support of Charlie Gard, a terminally ill British infant whose case has captured worldwide attention. His case has attracted huge global attention, with United States president Donald Trump and the Pope intervening.

Mr Gard added: "We have always acted in Charlie's best interests and we have never slated gosh publicly, in fact we have been grateful to the staff for their care despite some conflicting issues".

The court has previously ruled in favour of GOSH and said the baby should be allowed to die with dignity.

The hearing was held in advance of the trial, scheduled for Tuesday at the UK High Court.

Friday's hearing was the first time his parents were told about the latest results in the crucial test of Charlie's brain function.

Charlie has been examined by Dr. Michio Hirano, an American neurology expert from Columbia Medical Center in NY who has designed the proposed experimental treatment.
