The United States has doubled the amount of fuel it supplied to the Saudi-led coalition airplanes after a deadly on a funeral in Yemen which killed 130 civilians, according to figures obtained by the USA military.

The officials said the toll is expected to rise, with several women and children in critical condition.

The attack took place in the country's embattled governorate of Taiz, and UNHCR said most of the fatalities were believed to be from the same family.

The Saudi-led coalition, which is backing Yemen government forces fighting the Iran-allied Houthi rebels, prevented the United Nations flight from departing Djibouti on Tuesday because the journalists were due to travel.

"We call on all parties to end this devastating conflict", the two United Nations organizations said in their statement.

The statement said the civilians had fled fighting in the nearby Mokha district, on the Red Sea coast.

Those killed yesterday were fleeing the violence in Mokha.

Ben Lassoued said the journalists had secured visas from both sides of Yemen's conflict - government and rebel authorities - and shared their itinerary with the Saudi-led coalition.

The UNHCR has said that this attack "demonstrates the extreme danger facing civilians in Yemen, particularly those attempting to flee violence".

The Saudi-led coalition has faced repeated criticism over civilian casualties in Yemen.

Since the Saudi-led coalition began its attacks, the conflict has killed more than 10,000 people, forced millions from their homes, damaged infrastructure and pushed the country to the brink of starvation, according to the UN.

The coalition has admitted responsibility for some strikes that killed civilians, including a raid on the rebel-held capital Sanaa in October 2016 that killed more than 140 people at a funeral ceremony.

"A peaceful political solution to resolve the conflict in Yemen is urgently needed to end civilian suffering", UNHCR stated.

Yemen has been locked in a power struggle between President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi and Iran-allied Houthi rebels since 2014.

The campaigners want the U.N.to highlight crimes committed by Saudi Arabia in its annual children and armed conflict report, expected to be released next month.
