Justices to review New Jersey bid for legal sports betting

According to USA Today, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear an ongoing sports betting case from the New Jersey courts that has always been a magnet for political grandstanding. Now the Supreme Court will have the final decision.

The case could have far-reaching implications, given 21 states have similar "public accommodations" laws barring such discrimination.

"The Diocese of Venice will be closely monitoring Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, as it moves through the U.S. Supreme Court next term", Laielli wrote. When the bakery's owner heard that the cake was for two men, he said he wouldn't sell them a cake because of his religious beliefs.

Phillips told a gay couple, David Mullins and Charlie Craig, that due to his Christian beliefs, his store's policy was to deny service to customers wanting to purchase cakes to for same-sex weddings.

A Kennedy retirement could place a spotlight on the newest justice, Neil Gorsuch - whose judicial record of strong protection of religious rights includes the Hobby Lobby case, in which he ruled for private company owners challenging the Obamacare contraception coverage mandate on religious principles.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that states can not discriminate against same-sex couples in determining who is listed on a child's birth certificate.

Erdogan rejects Arab demands; Turkish troops stay in Qatar
Qatar is home to an important U.S. airbase, at al-Udeid, which serves as forward headquarters for U.S. He urged them to "lower rhetoric" to ease tensions.

The justices will review a lower court ruling against the state, which is hoping to capture some of the estimated $150 billion that is illegally wagered on sports each year.

Arash Jahanian is part of the ACLU team representing the gay couple in the cake case.

But the justices have refused repeated pleas to spell out the extent of gun rights in the United States, allowing permit restrictions and assault weapons bans to remain in effect in some cities and states.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday that it will hear Jack Phillips' lawsuit challenging Colorado anti-discrimination laws.

Advocates for the LGBT community see the case as simply an issue of basic rights.

The court will hear an appeal by baker Jack Phillips of Colorado. Even when a business owner's religious beliefs may motivate her to discriminate, that doesn't justify an exemption from our civil rights laws. Regardless of one's views on Obergefell - I was personally supportive of the result, without being entirely convinced by the underlying legal reasoning - it is now the precedent-guiding law of the land, so the Arkansas case appears to have been decided correctly.
