Trump Weighs Firing Mueller, According To Confidant

President Donald Trump has no intention to fire Robert Mueller, the former FBI director who is leading the bureau's investigation into Russia's meddling in last year's United States election, the White House said Tuesday.

A top U.S. Justice Department official assured lawmakers Tuesday that without "good cause" he would ignore any attempt by President Donald Trump to fire a special counsel investigating possible illegal collusion between Trump's aides and Russian officials in last year's campaign.

"As long as I'm in this position, he's not going to be fired without cause", he added. "I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel", Ruddy said.

"While the president has the right to, he has no intention to do so", deputy White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Tuesday when asked if Trump meant to fire Mueller. Gen. Jeff Sessions rightly recused himself from any investigation connected with the election. NPR reported last week that Mueller had been on the White House shortlist to succeed Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director before the Justice Department named him as special counsel.

Ruddy says that Spicer asked him to issue a follow-up statement or a tweet indicating that he never spoke to Trump about firing Mueller and so does not know first-hand that it is something the president is considering. "Director Mueller is going to have the full degree of independence that he needs to conduct that investigation appropriately", he told senators.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told reporters Tuesday he had confidence in Mueller, and dismissed reports that Trump might fire Mueller as "rumors". Ruddy says he does not believe Trump will follow through on his consideration to remove Mueller. Jeanne Shaheen, a New Hampshire Democrat, whether he has seen good cause to fire Mueller.

The top Justice Department official overseeing the investigation into Russian Federation also assured senators that Mueller has been granted complete independence to do his work. The president subsequently abolished the office of the special prosecutor and turned over to the Justice Department all further responsibility for investigating Watergate.

USA says it downed Syrian warplane that attacked US-backed fighters
A Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet shot down a Syrian SU-22 on Sunday, giving the US military its first air-to-air kill since 1999. The Pentagon said Sunday a Syrian SU-22 dropped bombs on coalition-partnered fighters near the town of Tabqah.

They say Trump did not collude with Russian Federation and see the investigation as a politically motivated sham that handicaps Trump's ability to execute his agenda, according to one person who advises the White House on how to handle the probe.

"I regret that I do not", Rosenstein said. 'But I think in the best case for the president is to be vindicated by allowing this investigation to go on thoroughly and independently'. He said that campaign donations to Democrats don't present a conflict of interest but that previous work with the Clinton Foundation and for the Clintons might. Ruddy later confirmed the comment to CNN. The Times report said that Trump considered firing Mueller, something TheDC's source confirmed.

"Let Robert Mueller do his job", Ryan said.

During a hearing on Tuesday (Wednesday NZT) before a joint House and Senate appropriations subcommittee, Rosenstein was asked whether he had seen any evidence of that.

If Mueller knew he was going to be named special counsel, it is unlikely he divulged that information to Trump.
