WH: Trump Has 'No Intention' of Firing Mueller

Newt: Republicans 'Delusional' if They Think Mueller Will Be Fair

President Donald Trump interviewed Robert Mueller as a potential replacement for fired FBI Director James Comey the day before the former FBI director was named special counsel, a White House official said Tuesday.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosentein offered assurances to lawmakers on Tuesday that he is exclusively responsible for Mueller's fate since Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation.

The reports started when a friend of the president's, Chris Ruddy, told reporters that the president was considering Mueller's termination. Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions has recused himself from the investigation and is testifying Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

There is no reason to fire the independent head of the FBI investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, the Justice Department's number two said Tuesday.

Ruddy argued that Mueller should not have taken the job of special counsel because he was under consideration for the other position, and had had the private meeting with the president for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director appointment.

"I'd be surprised if he did that", the Wisconsin Republican said in an interview on the "Hugh Hewitt Show." We don't know if it's going to happen or if it won't happen.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein says he will "defend the integrity" of the special counsel's investigation into Russian interference in the USA elections.

"No, I have not", Rosenstein said.

Needless to say, Ruddy's comments caused quite a stir, but top Trump administration officials were out in force t0 claim the statement isn't true.

Technically, it's up to the attorney general to decide what to do with the special counsel.

Wednesday, June 21: During NHL Awards show in Las Vegas, the league will announce the Golden Knights' Expansion Draft selections. He is obviously the best veteran goalie that the Knights can get , at least for the following two seasons.

"I'm not going to follow any orders unless they are a lawful order", Rosenstein responded.

President Donald Trump has no intention to fire Robert Mueller, the former FBI director who is leading the bureau's investigation into Russia's meddling in last year's United States election, the White House said Tuesday.

Former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich praised Robert Mueller when he was appointed special counsel but has since changed his opinion.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., raised questions regarding Mueller's independence, however. If Rosenstein refused, Trump could fire him, too.

"I think he's weighing that option", Mr.

Should Trump want to go around the department, the president would need to repeal the regulations enacted in 1999 that protect the special counsel from being summarily fired. "Look who he is hiring".

The reports Mueller may be replaced drew immediate outrage from Democrats. It's unclear whether the president could override those rules and order Rosenstein to fire Mueller.

His comments appeared to take the White House by surprise.

And deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said simply: "Chris speaks for himself". The person demanded anonymity to discuss strategy on the sensitive matter.
