Trump confirms probe over Comey firing

Hannity calls on Mueller, Rosenstein to resign

Mr Rosenstein played a part in the dismissal of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey who was sacked by Mr Trump in May.

Trump blasted Mueller on Twitter on Thursday, saying the Russian Federation probe was being "led by some very bad and conflicted people", apparently referring to the special counsel.

Mueller was appointed last month as special counsel to lead the probe, after Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey.

Rosenstein, in office for less than two months, is the top Justice official overseeing the probe because Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself.

'Americans should be be skeptical about anonymous allegations, ' Rosenstein continued. "The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations".

If there is an obstruction case against the President, one of the chief claims would be that Rosenstein's memo was a ruse orchestrated to shift attention away from the real reason for the Comey firing: the president's opposition to the FBI's investigation of whether Trump campaign aides colluded with the Russians to influence the presidential election campaign. After the statement, the Post updated the Kushner article so that its first sourcing reference was to "U.S. officials".

Mr. Rosenstein wrote a memo used by the White House to justify Comey's firing, prompting him to reportedly threaten to resign since the memo, though critical of the former director's performance, did not recommend his termination.

Now, Richard W. Painter, the former White House ethics lawyer tweeted Saturday saying: "Just appeared on FOX News".

The Justice Department on Friday said any such of consideration of recusal was premature.

Therefore, Rosenstein's flouting of the regulations means Mueller's investigation is a fishing expedition.

Any of these alternatives would have the same outcome: decision-making authority over Mueller and the Russian Federation investigation would pass into the hands of the third-ranking official in the Department of Justice, Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand, a former Bush administration official who later served as chief counsel for the US Chamber of Commerce. "Even his staunchest supporters will balk at such a blatant effort to subvert the law".

If Mueller strays from the straight and narrow, Rosenstein should not hesitate to remove him and name someone else to serve as special counsel.

Mr Trump took to Twitter yesterday to insist that despite months of investigating, no evidence has emerged that he colluded with Russian Federation to tilt the presidential election past year in his favour.

It's yet another tweet that's unleashed intense media speculation... a presidential post of less than 140 characters.

"As the deputy attorney general has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will". "However, nothing has changed".

Rosenstein is aware that he could become a witness, the network reported. I felt, required it, ' Sessions said in testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee this week. The memo included stinging criticism of the FBI director's handling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton's email.

There were several unconfirmed press reports Friday, citing unnamed sources in the Justice Department, that Rosenstein was preparing to recuse himself.

Mr Trump's tweets came after the top lawyer for his transition team warned the organisation's officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday.

Now, however, Trump's own legal counsel Jay Sekulow has insisted that this is not the case. And Trump's attitude toward the investigation is getting worse and worse.

A heightened sense of unease has gripped the White House after US President Donald Trump lashed out at reports that he is under scrutiny over whether he had obstructed justice. "Witch Hunt", the President tweeted.

The White House has directed questions for details to outside legal counsel, which has not responded. Pence headed the Trump transition until Inauguration Day.

The Twitter attacks came as Vice-President Mike Pence hired a personal lawyer to represent him in the intensifying investigation.
