Sailing-French legend Cammas targets next America's Cup

Luxury tourist resort under attack by gunmen near capital of Mali

He then upstaged Kiwi helmsman Peter Burling when, asked if he knew who Team New Zealand would pick for its opponent in the challenger semifinals, said: "From the leak I've got in their team, they're picking Ben Ainslie Racing".

The two-time defending America's Cup champions are foundering badly against hotshot young helmsman Peter Burling and Emirates Team New Zealand, who are threatening to sail - and cycle - away with the oldest trophy in worldwide sports.

The New Zealand team's double victory erased a one-point advantage the US team earned in an earlier regatta and gave them an early lead as they showed superior speed over the defending champions in the opening races.

Peter Burling, helmsman for Emirates Team New Zealand, left, shakes hands with skipper and helmsman Jimmy Spithill for Oracle Team USA, right, in front of the America's Cup trophy, known as the "Auld Mug", before a news confere.

"We're more anxious about how to make the boat go quicker, how to get around the track quicker".

"It's so shifty and so puffy, as we saw out there. you never stopped trimming something for the whole day, so those guys got an absolute whipping today".

"If we have to change hulls, its nearly twice the price to have our chance to perform", Cammas said. The victories gave Team NZ a 1-0 lead in the race to seven wins.

It's a spectacle that would be unrecognizable to America's Cup sailors of even two decades ago - and other-worldly to those of 1851, when a syndicate of NY businessmen sailed the schooner America across the Atlantic and humbled the best of the British fleet in a race around the Isle of Wight in what marked the birth of the America's Cup.

Was gunman ready to head home before congressman's shooting?
Sue Hodgkinson said she felt "horrible", saying, "I had no idea this was going to happen and I don't know what to say about it". The FBI's Washington field office, which is handling the investigation, provided no comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

The contest will resume next Saturday, with races five and six.

Burling, who has won Olympic gold and silver medals with grinder Blair Tuke, again appeared unflappable.

"Today was a really good day for us and we feel like we improved a lot on yesterday", Burling told a news conference.

“We were far from our best today and we ‘re obviously going to put some hours in now, have a good look through all the video all the data, sharpen up and we will come out swinging tomorrow.

The first in Race 1 came at the final mark, where in a repeat of one of their Challenger Finals races, the Kiwis muffed a gybe and bought the AC50 to a grinding halt, ahead of a fast approaching Oracle Team USA.

However, there was to be no late drama, as Burling's team crossed the finish line 30 seconds ahead of Spithill's ORACLE TEAM USA, wiping out the minus one point deficit to the Defenders and levelling the overall scores to 0-0 ahead of race two.

Races 3 and 4 are scheduled Sunday.

The team's light wind expertise is due in part to an efficient package of hydrofoils that lift the boat out of the water at high speed. They've built four stationary cycling stations into each hull to tap leg power instead of traditional arm power from the grinders to power the hydraulic systems that control the wing mainsail and the daggerboards.
