Jury awards victim $870000 after doctor removes wrong testicle

Model and Property Released

A Pennsylvania jury has awarded $870,000 to a man whose urologist removed the wrong testicle.

In 2013, 54-year-old Steven Hanes from Mount Union, Pennsylvania, went into surgery, hoping to have one of his testicles removed.

Hanes, a man from the Mount Union, Pennsylvania, had suffered from chronic pain in his right testicle due to it being nearly half the size of the other one.

Long performed surgery at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, but removed Haines' healthy left testicle.

The mistake was confirmed by Long during a follow-up visit.

Hanes will receive $620,000 in compensatory damages and $250,000 in punitive damages.

Poll shows most doubt Trump's respect for institutions
The poll was conducted after Trump's announcement that the country would withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. Special counsel Robert Mueller has also been appointed to oversee the Russian Federation investigation.

The botched operation, according to Hanes, was tantamount to reckless behavior on Long's part, as he wasn't able to properly identify the damaged testicle, and ended up removing the wrong one. Image credit: AP / Philly.com " Steve had the right testicle pain for 15 years before he went to see Dr.

If Haines does have his problem right testicle removed, he will have to undergo testosterone replacement therapy for the rest of his life. "Long. He wanted to relieve the pain", Lepisto said.

"Four years later, Steve continues to have the pain".

Though J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital was also alleged to be liable, the hospital's pretrial memo states that expert reports have yet to be made, which would be critical of the care provided by the medical facility.

"The verdict shows that even in counties where there are limited options for medical care, appropriate and competent care still is demanded by the community", said Lepisto.

In a 2011 report, the nonprofit Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare recommended several ways to prevent wrong site surgery, from marking the incision sites with something consistent (like the surgeon's initials) before the operation to reducing noise and other possible distractions in the operating room. Aside from this, Lepisto was quoted by PennLive as saying that his firm is investigating a medical malpractice case, where a patient had died while allegedly being under Long's care.
