Trump accuses ex-FBI chief Comey of lying

President Donald Trump speaks to a Faith and Freedom conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel Thursday

Mr Trump's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, also seized on the admission, casting the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director as one of the "leakers" set on undermining the Mr Trump administration. Trump's lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, responded to Comey's written testimony: "The President feels completely and totally vindicated".

"I hardly know the man", Trump insisted during a news conference alongside Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in the White House Rose Garden. However, the bureau is meant to be insulated from the political pressure of the White House. She called Comey an "honorable individual".

"I think it's an abuse of power, and as far as obstruction of justice", Ms Pelosi told U.S. broadcaster MSNBC, adding that special counsel Robert Mueller "should look into this". We can't be sure, since according to Comey's testimony, the investigation never focused directly on Trump himself, but on his campaign and aides.

And Comey admitted he asked a friend to leak those notes to a reporter, betting - correctly - that the details would prompt the appointment of a special prosecutor.

"It's my judgment that I was sacked because of the Russian Federation investigation", Mr Comey said toward the end of more than two hours of testimony before the Senate intelligence committee.

Earlier today, President Trump denied that he asked FBI Director James Comey to pledge his loyalty.

Trump also saluted the United States' relationship with Romania and praised its contribution to the global fight against terror. But the president accusing the former FBI director of a felony is sure to pique the interest of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation is picking up momentum. He also said he didn't ask Comey to drop an investigation of Flynn.

Trump branded Comey a "leaker" for indirectly providing to reporters the contents of memos he wrote after their private conversations.

Still, there was no doubt the veteran lawman made for a challenging adversary.

He also accused Qatar, a key US military partner, of funding terrorism "at a very high level", and said solving the problem in the tiny Persian Gulf nation could be "the beginning of the end of terrorism".

Mayweather coming back to fight UFC star McGregor Aug. 26
His boxing licence was granted by the California State Athletic Commission in December, allowing him to box in the U.S. state. The biggest question now is will McGregor be able to touch Mayweather in the upcoming boxing match.

"That is a very big deal, and not just because it involves me". Trump told no one.

"Lordy, I hope there are tapes", Comey said, suggesting such evidence would back up his account over the president's. This was the favored talking point of many following Comey's firing, and many believe that his testimony laid a clear case for moving forward in that avenue.

Asked if he would repeat his claims about Comey under oath, Trump said: "100%".

His tweet aside, Trump did not mention the Russian Federation probe during an infrastructure speech Friday at the U.S. Transportation Department, but did say he wants people in public service to "rise above the petty partisan squabbling that plagues our nation" and focus on fixing problems. "Maybe if I were stronger I would have".

"I took it as, this is what he wants me to do".

"WOW, Comey is a leaker!"

During a discussion of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, Comey disclosed that then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch, an Obama administration appointee, instructed him to refer to the issue as a "matter", not an "investigation".

"I was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting, so I thought it really important to document", he said. "We had an investigation open at the time so that gave me a queasy feeling".

So apparently, Trump would give his version of events under oath. The Senate judiciary committee, meanwhile, sent a request to Daniel Richman for Comey's memos.
