Mike Pence accuses Venezuela government of abuse of power

Trump under investigation for possible obstruction of justice: Washington Post

Speaking before Central American leaders at a prosperity and security conference organized by the State Department and Homeland Security Department here, Pence said he and President Donald Trump were "deeply saddened" when they received the news Wednesday.

US Vice President Mike Pence has hired a personal lawyer to deal with requests from the special counsel investigating possible collusion with Russian Federation during the 2016 election, a top aide has said. The VP's office released a statement saying that Pence hired Richmond-based attorney Richard Cullen, who once served as a USA attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Cullen also previously served as Virginia's Attorney General in the late 1990s.

Cullen also served as special counsel to U.S. Senator Paul Trible (R-VA) during the Iran-Contra investigation and was on the staff of Rep. M. Caldwell Butler (R-VA) during the Watergate investigation.

The visit from Pence comes one day before President Donald Trump will arrive in Miami, where he is expected to make a major announcement regarding the US and Cuba. The law firm referred questions back to the vice president's office.

Scarlett Johansson Adamant That 'Rough Night' Is Not Just Another Chick Flick

The Washington Post first reported Pence was hiring counsel.

The president denies doing anything wrong and has called the investigations a "witch hunt".

Pence chaired the president's transition after the election - a period during which Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn had repeated contact with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Cullen and Comey used to work together at McGuireWoods.
