Black Lives Matter activist Deray McKesson arrested while Periscoping

At least three journalists were arrested, as was prominent Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson. "Again, I remain deeply disappointed in the Baton Rouge Police Department".

Nola.com reports the latest remarks from Edwards come on the sixth day of protests over the police-involved shooting death of Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man killed during an altercation outside a north Baton Rouge convenience store on Tuesday.

More than 100 people were arrested, including DeRay McKesson, 31, a high-profile BLM organiser from Baltimore, who ran for mayor earlier this year. But McKesson reportedly said to those marching that there was no sidewalk, The New York Times reported.

With the police bringing out tear gas, smoke grenades and heavy-duty vehicles to round up the crowds, protestors said they were not being allowed to hold peaceful demonstrations.

Demonstrations continued in cities across the United States this weekend over police discrimination against black people and following Thursday's killing of five Dallas police officers by a former Army reservist.

Casey Rayborn Hicks of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office says 101 people were taken to the parish jail in connection with the protests that began Saturday.

What started as a peaceful march in downtown ended with tense moments between police and protesters.

Then an officer says the man in the "loud shoes" has been "flagged": "You in them loud shoes, if I see you in the road, if I get close to you, you're going to jail", an officer can be heard saying on the video.

"We don't want to be profiled as African-Americans, we also can't profile law enforcement because the supermajority of them are trying to do the right thing", he said.

Clinton, Biden to campaign together after police-related shootings
Biden commemorated the lives of the five police officers killed and the seven people wounded in the Dallas shootings. Her audience applauded when she noted that the police died protecting a march protesting police violence.

Moore suggested that "first offenders" and people who may have just "stepped over a line" could have their cases resolved more quickly than those for protesters accused of carrying guns or injuring officers.

McKesson spoke with a Washington Post reporter through text message after he was detained, and said many protesters who were arrested along with him were complaining that their hand restraints were too tight.

"The police in Baton Rouge have been truly bad tonight".

Some protesters headed for more demonstrations at the Baton Rouge Police Department, where overnight protests led to 30 arrests. One officer reportedly had teeth knocked out, and protesters were tasered.

The protests lasted well into the evening but died down a little after midnight.

He also said he wants the community to work with law enforcement.

The protesters chanted "Black lives matter" and "No justice, no peace" as they marched through Manhattan on Saturday. She didn't resist, and the police didn't drag her off. The officer asked him for his license and registration and as he went to retrieve those items, the officer shot him multiple times, she explains as the recording continues. "It's amusing because until the Dallas shootings, there was minimal police presence at all".

"She just stood there and made her stand. I was just happy to be able to capture something like that", Bachman said.
